Why Relationship MD?

Throughout my professional journey, I have enjoyed reflecting on my own educational experiences. Although I must admit, as a student, rarely could I recall a medical-oriented lecture or presentation where I felt enjoyment and/or enlightenment. Ironically, my professional career has allowed me to lecture extensively where I’ve taught many populations, including undergraduates, medical students, resident doctors and mental health professionals. Often, the participant feedback is “I loved your presentation; I learned a lot; I laughed a lot.”

It became evident to me that my style of teaching was effective on topics that are generally difficult to understand, much less enjoyable.

In my clinical work, I have noticed how problem relationships are at the root of much unhappiness and have tremendous negative impact on my patients’ mental health and financial issues. When looking at the systemic effect that broken relationships have on society-at-large, and particularly within the African American community, this awareness moved me to provide some basic education and guidelines on how to identify, initiate, and maintain healthy relationships.

"I married my passion for teaching and my insight on the essential need for healthy relationships and founded Relationship MD."
